Lead Developer

Kano (www.kanoapps.com) is looking for a Lead Developer to help drive development on MOB Wars: La Cosa Nostra, one of our most successful game franchises that has been played by millions of players worldwide. This role will be responsible for development, code review, code quality, pairing, architecting, estimating and planning on one of our smash hits. The lead will manage a team of developers creating features to continue to grow and entertain our players.

Our goal is to build long lasting player-centric gaming experiences that have challenges and opportunities in both the business and technical realms.

You are an experienced developer with an established background in developing customer-facing, high volume, high availability systems and possess strong technical ability, excellent communication skills, and the motivation to achieve results in a dynamic fast-paced environment. You balance your technical skills with a passion for gaming and business acumen to drive great product experiences for our customers.

While we do offer flexible hours and scheduling, this is primarily an in-office position - remote applicants must be willing to relocate to beautiful Victoria, BC.

You’ll be working on things like:

  • Taking ownership for an entire game’s codebase and enforcing high quality standards
  • Setting technical vision for a game and making key architectural decisions
  • Leading a core development team and helping each member level up
  • Working with product and creative teams to plan and execute development and releases, building towards world-class products
  • Delegating tasks and setting deadlines to ensure team success
  • Ensuring optimal uptime and technical health of a game for its global audience of players 24/7/365
  • Acting as a key mentor for developing talent within the company

Your background should include:

  • 3+ years experience in a technical leadership role
  • Expertise with HTML5 and Javascript games development
  • Back-end or full stack development experience
  • Experience shipping consumer facing software products and/or games
  • Strong understanding of OO and modern software design principles
  • A strong desire to build something that people really want
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent

It'd be a big plus if you have:

  • Experience with game optimization techniques
  • Experience with AWS
  • Working knowledge or experience with Unix/Linux
  • Continuous integration and automated testing experience
