Technology – Victoria, British Columbia
Department Technology
Employment Type Full Time
Minimum Experience Experienced

Kano (www.kanoapps.com) is looking for a talented and passionate individual to join our games engineering team to work on our hit game, Mob Wars: La Cosa Nostra.

You enjoy solving complex device and game platform problems where you can exercise your practical technical knowledge. You also effectively collaborate with others to provide technical expertise to identified issues.

As a small team where the code you write gets deployed fast, you’ll also be responsible for development, testing, and code quality.

We offer flexible hours to accommodate real lives (the ones outside of the office too!), a good natured and nerdy group of peers, the opportunity to make an impact in the work you do, and the chance to work in beautiful Victoria, BC.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Take ownership of game performance optimization to make our social games perform amazingly on millions of devices around the world.
  • Deal with issues including profiling, memory, CPU, run-time, load-time, etc.
  • Create robust underlying infrastructure and systems that games teams can lean on
  • Build client-side and server-side game features

The things we’re looking for in your background:

  • Experience in cross team collaboration and asserting your technical know-how
  • Experience implementing, shipping, and supporting solutions to social/mobile applications (iOS, Android, Facebook, etc)
  • 5+ years development with high-level languages
  • Full stack experience - Javascript and PHP is ideal, but other languages are great too!
  • Creating and supporting products that serve thousands of people concurrently with ease
  • Game development experience would be sweet - but working on a SaaS product is cool too
  • Strong understanding of OO and modern software design principles
  • A strong desire to build something that performs really well

It'd be a big plus if you have:

  • Experience with game optimization techniques
  • Experience with AWS or other cloud infrastructure
  • Working knowledge or experience with Unix/Linux
  • Continuous integration, build pipelines, and automated testing experience
  • Experience with Apache Cordova/Phonegap
