Junior Game Developer

Technology · Victoria, British Columbia
Department Technology
Employment Type Full Time
Minimum Experience Entry-level

Kano (www.kanoapps.com) is looking for a junior game developer to help drive development on Mob Wars: La Cosa Nostra, one of our most successful games.

We’re a small team where the code you write gets deployed fast. So, at Kano, you’ll be responsible for development, code review, release, and post release management.

If you’re a developer with experience managing live customer facing products, and the idea of working collaboratively across departments and teams sounds exciting, then we want to hear from you!

We offer flexible hours to accommodate real lives (the ones outside of the office too!), a good natured and nerdy group of peers, the opportunity to make an impact in the work you do, and the chance to work in beautiful Victoria, BC (preference will be given to local applicants).

Your background should include:

  • 1+ years professional development experience with high-level languages (eg. Javascript, PHP, C#, Java etc)
  • Game development experience (side projects count!)
  • Recent experience with Javascript and modern JS frameworks
  • Back-end or full stack development experience
  • Understanding of OO and modern software design principles
  • A strong desire to build something that people really want

It'd be a big plus if you have:

  • You have worked with applications serving thousands of people at a time
  • Experience shipping social or mobile applications (iOS, Android, Facebook, etc),
  • Experience with HTML5 and Javascript games development
  • Experience with game optimization techniques
  • Database experience
  • Experience with AWS
  • Working knowledge or experience with Unix/Linux

Values we look for in candidates:

  • You are persistent with a bias towards action and strive to produce desired outcomes as quickly as possible
  • You are not afraid to seek help and ask great questions
  • You are curious, and strive to understand the "why"
  • You take great ownership over your work

We’re a fast-growing company and your role will be constantly changing and evolving. We’re looking for team players eager to roll up their sleeves and try on a few hats without losing sight of our primary objective: growing our base of loyal customers. We will empower you with as much responsibility as you can handle and expect you to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

This position is open to remote applicants however, preference will be given to candidates willing to relocate to beautiful Victoria B.C.
